The good news :
The main issue remaining with Realtek ALC268 was that mics doesn't work.
Alsa 1.0.18a contains a fix for that:
http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-kmirror.git;a=commit;h=2cc442715c45c88016c3c1c68e8828683d1b186a
This add a new model acer-dmic for all laptops that have digital mics.
Can confirm in latest kernel had to compile drivers from realtek website andadd
also digital input sources to ALSA in order for all sound to work- this picks
up headphone jack and speakers. Mic as yet untested, but think it works from
headphone source and onboard..

Tim : I agree with you, it is a big patch against alsa 1.0.14.
If alsa 1.0.15 can make it for Gutsy release, that 's really great ! Thanks a
lot.
I just hope that Gutsy will work out of the box with this kind of card.
I'm willing to test your packages. Feel free to ask.

This update to patch_realtek.c diverges too far from ALSA 1.0.14 which
is the base version originally included in linux-ubuntu-modules for snd-
hda-intel support. I am concerned about regressions. However, I am

drivers. It ough
Romano,
you said smth about using 2.6.23rcX so you could have s2ram.
What happens if you use 2.6.22? It suspends but do not resume (or resumes to a
blank screen)?
Are you running compiz-fusion? Is your laptop a A205-S4577? What video driver
are you using (intel or i810)? Where did you read about
someone else that try Fred package and can confirm?

thanx fred.
Ubuntu audio team is it possible to add the file before kernel freeze? It is
really needed to make a lot of soundcards work here.

In the lum source package, i just replaced file:
ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/patch_realtek.c
with the one provided in patch 17. That's all.

I get sound only installing alsa 1.0.15rcX, and not only the drivers, but libs,

yes exactly for unknown reason snd-hda-intel is under a different

Anyway I think Ben want to say that we have to test the ubuntu module

One thing a lot of people miss when updating with ALSA is to remove the
original snd-hda-intel.ko.
