Hi Trip, have the same proble you had with GE and the fonts. How did
you upgrade only the mesa packages to the Jaunty versions?
Thanks in advance.

Binary package hint: googleearth-package
Ever since I got my new computer back in July, I've been having a
problem with Google Earth's display being... incorrect. I'm filing this
here and not with Google because I think this is actually a problem in
Xorg or
thanks Trip. it solved it. i disabled Compiz and installed the bin. file from
the Google web site.
one note though: i needed to add in the shortcut gksudo before the file
directory, in order for it to run properly..
thanks again..

Broken Image/Road Overlays on Google Earth
hi all,
i add this bug report as a comment because i already added it into the
medibuntu package/repo.
a couple of problems i have with GoogleEarth
1. doesn't load without sudo before the command. if so, i see only the stars.
2. compiz needs to be DISABLED in order for it to work. probably due
Hello:
I do not run Compiz Fusion because I am a KDE 4 user. I don't use KDE
4's integrated compositing because I find that my system feels slower
when I have compositing enabled, and I don't much care for all the
excessive effects and transitions. Further, compositing liked to crash
X, and did
As far as I can tell, the latest updates to the Jaunty mesa stuff has
fixed both of my problems! All the letters and numbers are showing up
and, more importantly, I'm using image overlays without issue now. =)

I'm really not sure what you're referring to. I found one mesa package
with x11 in it, and it was not installed. Attempting to install it
wanted to rip apart half my system.

For what it's worth (maybe not much). I had that missing number issue
(see Trip's 9/4/08). That was an improvement from the slowness. Prior
to 8.10 upgrade, Google Earth was fast, not jerky, all characters,
overlays, etc. gorgeous. (oh, system Dell Latitude D610, integrated
Intel 915GM, 1GB).
Just upgraded to the new Jaunty kernel (2.6.28-1) and the new Intel
driver (2.5.1 or whatever). Still having the same problem. I've
attached an updated screencap, note all the missing letters.
Attempting to use image overlays still hangs it.

I'm going to guess that you are an automated message, because I already
submitted that information.
It's very much still an issue. If it had gone away or otherwise
changed, I'd have updated it.

Hi rovfan,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu?
We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this
Still a problem, even on latest updates. Reopening since I was only
given 8 minutes between the notice and closure of the bug. I'd heard
absolutely nothing and there was no change, so no reason to post
anything.

Alright, some update to Kubuntu Intrepid fixed this somewhat, but not
entirely.
Whereas the roads used to break up as the image overlays do, now the
roads are solid at all times. I have two new problems though:
1- Only certain letters/numbers appear. For example, the coordinates at
the bottom
I have what looks to be the same symptom in a similar configuration.
googleearth has broken-up image overlays on Gutsy (7.10), and I have a
GM965/GL960 graphics controller (machine is a DELL Inspiron 1420
preloaded with 7.10). If anyone can give me clues about what
information would be helpful
Strange but reliable fix, on my machine:
Create new user (default options and permissions)
Start up googleearth in that new user.
Overlays now display fine.
-
Still doesn't work back on my normal user account, but now I have a workaround.
I assume there was something funky in the way I
Did not help. Still just as choppy as ever. In fact, on the new user
account, it took several minutes just to open.

You're looking in the wrong place; googleearth-package is for
packaging/installation issues only. Report to Google themselves for any
errors with the actual Google Earth program.

Broken Image/Road Overlays on Google
Many apologies. I'm using Alpha 2, though I was using Gutsy when I
initially filed the bug, and it's been doing this ever since I got this
computer in July.
Google Earth works fine in Windows on this machine.
How would one file a bug with Google? I asked in their support forum
about this
You didn't say which version you are running, so I'm guessing it's not
hardy. Please test alpha2 or alpha3 which is released later this week.
