Launchpad has support for bug filing instructions on a per project basis
and the ones for Ubuntu were implemented at the end of January 2008 and
that is why you did not see them when you originally filed your bug
report. You can see the instructions when you file a new bug about
Ubuntu.

The bug seems to be fixed in Ubuntu 8.10. Whether I unmount using the
desktop icon, the "places" panel plugin or the shell command, it works.
