Dear Gregg, I tried but still the special effects are not available. By the way, the X server did not get the CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE signal, and I instead killed the X process. I will try to install the 8.04 but I am afraid I will have no time for it until Friday... I'll keep you informed! Franco

Franco, Thank you for your response. One thing you can try when using the LiveCD is after installing the nvidia-glx-new driver is to restart X (the software that controls the graphics). To do that a quick way is by pressing CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. That will kill X (and any running program) and it wi
