Well this is strange as I sometimes get it to work and then the next
boot up I get a message that freqcontrol is not supported.
That makes me think that it is a format or setup problem. I found (and
then lost) a web site that I think gave me the script to make it work at
least part time

We don't know yet, the best guess at the moment is to upgrade the BIOS
of your computer.
A new bios has been released for the hp dv2000 skipping the current
version on at least one already shipped one (mine), Fishy!
I am to chicken to try it on mine.

I also can not get it to work. I am using a Celeron M, with Hardy 8.04LTS I
get the following:
[FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq
(/lib/modules/2.6.22-15-generic/kernel/arch/x86_64/kernel/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko):

Whin I run [lsmod | grep cpufreq] I get

I can't load acpi-cpufreq on an HP-2133 Mini-note with a VIA C7-M processor.
(This seemed like the closest bug to comment on instead of opening yet another
bug). I'm running Hardy Heron RC1 updated as of 4/24/08. The laptop has a
dual-boot config between Xubuntu Hardy and Suse Enterprise 10 (wh
Alright, so I retried the following commands and everything works now. I
need to figure out how to properly configure this frequency scaling, but
that's a separate problem.
Just running "sudo modprobe acpi_cpufreq" worked fine I think.
"lsmod | grep cpufreq" returns the following:
acpi_cpufreq
Alsa was fixed in hardy updates, but acpi-cpufreq is still broken...
I've rocompiled kernel from 2.6.24.4 vanilla sources + apparmor patches
and everything works as it should - so this is probably not the upstream
issue. But somehow I dont think this is the way to go for ordinary
Ubuntu users - ke
did you try any of the bootflags from the thread?

I'm running into this same problem. 2.6.24-16-generic kernel in x86_64
version. Running a Core 2 Duo T7200. Using Gnome 2.22.1.
So what can we do to fix this?

That is a different problem because the gutsy kernel also fails to allow
cpu frequency scaling.

I've observed same behaviour on 2.6.24-15 - latest available - on old
C2D T5500 (Uniwill M31e laptop), which worked perfectly in Gutsy. Cannot
insert acpi_cpufreq, and speedstep_centrino not even available:

Forgot to mention- I'm using Hardy Heron, installed from alpha 6 and
fully updated as of ~6 hours ago; this is definitely not bug 132271,
because it does not allow the changing or reduction of CPU frequency at
all.

I'm the thread starter from the link graingert posted, and I still have
this problem on my t9300. None of the cpufreq modules will work, and I
have the exact same errors:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe acpi_cpufreq

I receive no such error as in bug 132271 . Other users who have upgraded
to hardy have found this bug still to be a problem

Hi graingert,
bug 132271 seems to have reported similar issues and was resolved in the
Hardy kernel release. Care to test the latest Hardy Alpha release which
has an updated version of the kernel - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing.
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If y
