to jaunty. I usually access the internet from behind a proxy server (in
my university). Before 8.04 I could see the weather conditions of both
manually added locations and locations which were already in the list.

This seems to be related:
I have the weather applet installed, and it doesn't always update,
sometimes going for days without doing so. If I remove the applet and
re-add it, then the update is performed. I can confirm that my
networking is fine.

The clock doesn't show weather info for me either, even though the
checkbox is marked.
My city (Leiden, Netherlands) isn't listed, so I have to enter the
timezone and coordinates manually. The closest weather info is from
Valkenburg, Netherlands, but that info is not shown when I enter my
city.
Oh, I found the solution (which is probably also what I used on the old
installation). Using gconf-editor, you can edit the key
/apps/panel/applets/clock_screen0/prefs/cities. The 'code=' field of
it was set to '(null)'. After changing that part to 'EHVB', the clock
applet now shows both the

I do not know if this is related, but somehow the weather information is
*never* getting updated! I am using Hardy that is up-to-date as of 03-aug-08.
My question is: how does the clock retrieve the weather information? Is it from
a particular site like weather.com?

never causes me any problems. The weather information still shows up and
the timezone of my system is still correct. Have you made sure to set

For anyone still having problems with the timezone, the root of the
issue is that the timezone of your location and the timezone of your
computer must match in order for the weather to show up in the system
tray. See bug 232375.

x86 updated from gutsy.

yes, it is very wired... I rebootet my notebook and I checked the timezone
before the login into gnome.
The timezone was correct, but in the setting of the clock (Tab - Location) the
timezone is set to Amerika / Dawson.
I change my network settings to start eth0 before gnome and I can see the
timezone change (...) seemed to have worked the trick to weather icon display.
without even logging off or rebooting.

(let's say Australia/Sydney) with the clock applet, reboot and see if
the timezone is correctly detected after the reboot? (also, if the
weather for Sydney still appears after the reboot)

Vincent: I have done as you told me. I have set Australia/Sydney and I
was able to see the icons. After the rebbot the timezone changed again
to America/Edmonton and I am no longer able to see the weather icons.
Except I will change the timezone again.

I am not sure, but for me it seems to be one problem.
The gnome-clock-applet does not show the icons for weather and temperature
until I change the setting for the clock-applet (timezone), but after a reboot
the settings are set to something different.

Unfortunately, kmon's approach didn't work for me (Hardy beta, last
updated yesterday). As shown in the attachment, the applet is actually
able to download and display weather information, but not directly on
the panel. Show weather and Show temperature are both checked in my
preferences.

I've fixed the issue by removing the applet, reinstalling the gnome-
applets gnome-applets-data packages, and adding the clock applet again
(setting my home location again).
