Hi Tom, I'm able to install the libpixman and xulrunner files in your repo
without issues and that fixes the
problem. I'm unable to install the cairo/udeb packages in the repo due to
unresolved dependencies. Does that mean im taking a performance hit?
Thanks,

Thanks, Michael, that's very helpful. So nvidia is okay (most likely
falls back to software rendering), so we're good there.
Sancho, the packages are built against intrepid, so there shouldn't be
any dependency problems. Just adding the two lines to your sources.list
file and running an upgrade

Hey Tom,
Is it ok to request people on UbuntuForums to help with running the test that
you need?
Should I go ahead and make a post asking for volunteers using nvidia/ati to run
the
reflect-test program? Is there any possibility of any issues with their systems
while running the test?
Cheers!
Yes, that would be very helpful. The test is completely harmless, it
just executes a few Render operations and dumps the results to .png
files that can be safely deleted afterwards.
Thanks!

Tom,
My graphics card specifics (on Intrepid) are:

Regarding installing xulrunner and cairo using jaunty dependencies, that sounds

Okay, I have the same card. Intrepid has a 2.4 intel driver, so
presumably Reflect has been fixed in 2.5, which

Thanks. So intel is fine. I looked at the source of all the drivers in
jaunty and five of them are broken (vmware I'm unsure about):
xserver-xorg-video-ati-6.10.0
xserver-xorg-video-mga-1.4.9.dfsg (probably won't be an issue in
practice as it almost never accelerates)
Okay, so it turns out that the reason for these fallbacks is that some
drivers implement certain Xrender operations incorrectly (see this
thread for details:
http://lists.cairographics.org/archives/cairo/2009-January/016320.html).
One such case is the opensource radeon driver, the intel driver is

Tom, regarding the patch, you mentioned that applying it be slower and
performance could take a hit.
I scale up almost all the webpages I browse, so does that mean it would add up
to a notable
performance hit?

Okay, I dug a little deeper and it turns out firefox uses cairo for
rendering and cairo will use client-side rendering because it thinks the
X server doesn't support EXTEND_PAD. My testing suggests that XRender
does support it, though (at least since hardy). So the solution to the

I suggest the following changes to the bug status:

Why is the importance of this bug set to 'wishlist'? Isnt this something that
is not working the way it is intended to, rather than a feature request?Having

Here's something that I find truly weird: When I zoom any page a whole bunch
of times, the image files are all jagged and messy, but if I click-n-drag any
such
badly zoomed image, the image that gets dragged with the mouse is zoomed
perfectly, and to the same scale as the original!

@Bryce, thank you so much for your time. I trying for so long to get some
response on this.
I a relative noob and am not into coding, so I can't compare actual codes and
the like. My comments are based on what I have read on forums and mailing
lists. Based on that and my personal experience,
@Sancho, you refer to a patch - can you give a pointer to the patch? We
are relatively caught up to upstream's latest released code, but if
there are new patches we can certainly consider backporting them, but
the exact patches need to be identified first.
For anyone still seeing this problem,
@Sancho, in comment #16 you claim that the issue is fixed in pixman
0.10, yet we're shipping 0.12 in Intrepid. I cannot find evidence to
back up your claim that this is fixed upstream. Feel free to provide
some additional proof, but for now I'm going to decline the Intrepid
nomination.

I think resetting the zoom would be a bad idea, as I have to change it every
