I have this problem too. I know that i need new kernel modules for
2.6.24-18-generic kernel, but I can't find those. So I don't update my
kernel until I find solution. Is there another solution than right

thanks for your comment. However, for some people this might not be acceptable
as they'd have to use an old kernel.
Note: For those of you who do not want to go through the following
steps, just use the attached deb-Package which is the result of the
following process.
This work-around do
Most of you probably are aware of this, but for people who are freaking
out because their VMs don't work and don't know what to do:
Open a terminal.
Open Synaptic Package Manager by issuing the command: gksudo synaptic
Search by name for "virtualbox-ose-modules".
Take note of the latest version yo
The previous attachment is a PNG, btw. Here's a corrected
/boot/grub/menu.lst file. I transposed the 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.24-18
entries. If there's an easier way, like some way to flag a menu entry as
the default regardless of its order, please let me know.

Same happened with -16/-17 upgrade. Now with -18 again I have to keep
the old version to use VirtualBox.
Why not release virtualbox-ose-modules up-to-date on every kernel
upgrade (at the same time please!)?

I can confirm this problem. There is no updated virtualbox-ose-modules-
generic module available for 2.6.24-18 yet. The latest version seems to
be for 2.6.24-17. Building from source also fails because the
virtualbox-ose-modules-generic source package depends on the header
files for 2.6.24-17.

After upgrading the kernel of Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy to 2.6.24-18, I have the
same error message just like the others above.

VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either
not loaded or /dev/vbo
I can't confirm the last time virtual box worked correctly on my end, but I'm
getting the same error:
~$ virtualbox

Same problem.
