I've found the root cause of my problems. My grub installation is on
another partition and I hadn't updated it after upgrading to Hardy. My
kernel should have been 2.4.26-19. This was causing a conflict loading

I notice that your xorg.conf contains lots of modelines for your
monitor. You should no longer need these in Hardy, as Xorg should
autodetect the optimum settings for your display. Indeed, from the
information you have posted, I am confident that your monitor will be
