Yes, it helped and KDE now behaves as before:
- if effects are off, scrolling is fast
- if effects are on, then scrolling is choppy, but less choppy than after all
day using KDE without XAA
Fortunately for me I don't use effects. But if I was, then it would be a
compromise for me.
In any case
To rule out KDE/Qt you can log in to a Failsafe X Terminal session (or
whatever it is called in the login options) and run non-KDE
applications. You won't get menus etc, so you have to start things from
the command line, e.g. firefox.
For EXA (default if you remove XAA from xorg.conf) there are
Tormod, as I wrote in my initial bug description, the scrolling and
rendering is choppy only for KDE applications and if I run GTK
application in the KDE session, they are not choppy. So the running KDE
don't influence non-KDE applicaions. But I'll play with these options
and if I find something
Does it help if you use
Option AccelMethod XAA
in the Device section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

corrupted graphics, choppy scrolling
I'm seeing the same corrupted graphics and gui slowness, but am using
the intel video driver. Perhaps this is a general kdeui or qt bug?
[...@pingu ~]$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel kdelibs5 libqt4-core

I forgot to note that choppy scrolling does not appear in the GTK
applications like Firefox and Eclipse.
