After some more testing, I don't really think this is a GhostScript bug.
I reverted poppler to version 0.11.0-0ubuntu4, and this caused the
printer to start working again immediately (after only restarting cups).
Can someone else confirm this?

Ref comment #12. Agree that it may not be Ghostscript (I have the same
issue on HP DeskJet 3650 and Karmic).
I reverted to jaunty versions of hplip, hpijs, foomatic and libpoppler.
I still have the latest GhostScript (ghostscript 8.70.dfsg.1-0ubuntu1)
installed and it is now printing okay. I have

Using the 0.11.0-0ubuntu4 with the package installer warns of a later
version already installed. Requesting to remove libpoppler5
(0.11.2-0ubuntu1) through Synaptic warns that about 60 other packages
need to be removed and they seem fairly important, so I'm a little
nervous about removing it.

I also recall seeing the CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized
messages as Tim Bosse reported above, although both the cups html
interface and the KDE printer config utility seemed to add, remove and
modify the printer without complaint.

Similar issue with Samsung SCX-4100 (the raster driver is proprietary,
but the present problem seems to be in a layer above it).
Worked fine on Jaunty with the same PPD file as now. Now only prints
blank pages, with similar Weird page content error messages as above.

I have this issue also. I have 2 printers, a color inkjet HP6500, and a
laser HP3050.
It spits out only 1 blank page regardless of job size and I see errors
regarding weird page contents.
