This bug is still present in the newest Ubuntu 9.10 Beta! It boots with
disabling "acpi=off" and "noacpi" but of course, pnpbios doesn´t work
too ... Hope this gets fixed with a newer ACPI/Kernel-version.

I installed 10.10 alpha1 64bit to an 8 gb usb drive with bootloader on the 8
gb drive.
first boot: boot, splash screen, black screen. waited 20 min, give up.
2nd: boot, remove quiet splash, watch lines of text go by, black screen, give
up.

wow, it really seems to be fixed in ubuntu 10.10! i was able to install
the nvidia proprietary nvidia binary-driver without any problems on a
medion akoya p8610 - thanks to the now working acpid :)

startup disc creator fails to format my usb.. i click "format" after 5 minutes
the program is clickable again, but still an orange triangle at the usb
location.. unetbootin in linux installs the live usb image to my usb drive no
problem, i reboot, select usbkey in the bios menu, reboot, boot err

wouter215: the acpi-daemon just don't work with this phoenix-bios. thats why
you need to disable acpi, so that your pc don't crash at booting up.
well, it should be good to have the debug-output of the crash, but i think a
screenshot won't show all the output ... maybe it's somewhere logged (dmse
onny: where would the live-cd save files?(log) on the hdd or in RAM?

Could you try the newer Karmic 9.10 Alpha release? It contains a much
newer 2.6.31 based kernel. I'd actually recommend maybe waiting a day
or two since the newest Alpha6 is scheduled to be released tomorrow.

still the ubuntu 9.04 work around works just fine.
