This is a confirmed bug, and apparently, we are expecting Ubuntu's
developers to respond on this (and they haven't). I have no doubt this
is still reproducible if one is willing to roll back to Jaunty, but this
is just not a practical request. I wish this type of bugs can be treated
with higher

Last night, my experience was similar to this bug description.
Early this afternoon, I saw a work around in a comment on this bug, which I do
not see now. I think that work around involved a command to ignore
openoffice.org-filter-binfilter, but I do not remember it. After running that
work

sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org-filter-binfilter
