So there's been a lot that has changed over the last few days that may
or may not affect people's behavior with audio on the live disks. It's
becoming hard to determine what factors might be affecting different
people, so I'm going to mark this bug as closed.
If you are still having issues,
We are at high risk of trying to track multiple problems with this
ticket. Please subscribe yourselves to Bug #439779 and if you encounter
further problems once that one is resolved, please open new tickets with
all the needed info (especially mythtv revision and/or build date).
Again, thank you
I seem to be having similar symptoms. I have a Gigabyte motherboard with
a Realtek ALC889A chip in it. Sound somewhat works with the latest
Ubuntu Karmic CD although I do see some anomalies (which I have reported
here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/439779

the whole soundoutput of the system is broken.
When I start the normal mplayer while running mythtv, the mplayer dells me the

Mario, I pulled all updates and tried your suggestions, but no luck.
I'm still using the gnome desktop (would that make a difference?) and I
just did an upgrade, not a CD re-install (difference?). alsa-utils is

Check and make sure the mixers are all turned up again (in alsamixer), and
make sure the pulseaudio settings are turned up too. Otherwise
PULSE_INTERNAL=1 mythfrontend won't work still.
Hopefully you don't need a full reinstall, but it looks like you have a
different problem than originally
I definitely made sure that the pulseaudio mixers were turned up
(assuming that's what the gnome mixer was controlling). I didn't try
alsamixer at the time of the test. I just logged into the box remotely
and I can see that the volume settings in alsamixer are at the maximum
setting. One thing to
Changing back to confirmed since the fixes (which are necessary) do not
seem to resolve the issue of the ticket originator.

You received this
So there are two bugs at play here:
1) This one, which is immediately caused by alsa-utils missing on the CD. Will
be fixed with tomorrow's CD builds.
2) pulseaudio causing havock, which we'll track in bug 436792 instead. You can
workaround it for now by running mythfrontend like this:
This bug was fixed in the package mythbuntu-meta - 0.48
