Doris, this was very useful information, and you did wonderfully. From this information, I can see that your computer is trying to talk to the CD player, but isn't quite doing it correctly. This is definitely a bug. What I would like to try next is to get your computer fully-up-to-date. Most

Ok, I am fairly convinced that this isn't a problem with rhythmbox as much as it is a problem with Ubuntu not recognizing the insertion of the CD. Just to test, could you find a non-music CD or DVD and insert that into the drive to see if Ubuntu does anything? -- Before Ubuntu upgrade to 9.10,

Doris, let's take this one item at a time... Don't worry about another type of CD. We can figure stuff out in other ways. As for the USB thumb drive, it will work with Linux. There are two common reasons why the thumb drive did not insert into the port. The most common is that it is

Doris, thank you for the laugh. You are taking all of this in very graceful strides. Yes this does help me a bit. It tells me that certain parts of Ubuntu are working properly, and narrows down the list of possible sources of problems. As for the thumb drive, you are absolutely correct that
