I've got the same problem. Ubuntu loads very quickly to the login
screen, then takes 26 seconds to show my wallpaper + icons + panel. I've
attached my .xsession-errors when running gnome-session with the --debug
option. I only started my session and loaded gnome-terminal to copy the
.xsession-error

OK, I will do that when I can. Unfortunately my desktop computer is
stuck at my ex-girlfriends house - being an 'ex' (recent occurrence) I
don't go there much and where I am now living has no Internet access
(hence leaving my computer to use occasionally at the 'exes') and as the

not a gdm issue if it happens after login but rather a gnome-session
one, adding .xsession-errors to the bug and maybe changing gnome-
session.desktop to run with --debug and get a debug log could be useful

The last updates I did were two days ago. There has been no change to
the speed of the desktop loading; it is still 20+ seconds from login to
a usable desktop. The 'hang' occurs after my login password is accepted
- up to that point, the boot is quick as is shutdown. I already have
disabled my flop
Do you still get the issue on current lucid? Do you get the issue before
having the gdm login screen or after entering your login informations?
There are similar bugs happening on disks detection, users reported than
turning off the floppy support in the bios on boxes which have no such
driver work

Further 52 updates installed today - Wallpaper is loading more quickly
(about 15 seconds, rather than 20+ seconds. Panels do not load, nor do
icons, nor does the gnome 'launcher' work.

Changing the wallpaper made no difference (was using the space one that has a
number of wallpapers the change, that's why I thought that changing it might do
something.

that the desktop does not load for 20 seconds. After the login box
disappears, the 'light theme' is all that I see for 20 seconds - there
is no wallpaper, nor panels nor a usable desktop until 20 seconds have

Affecting me as well. The time applet freezes at boot time and launched
applets are not displayed, which only happens when something hangs at
boot time.
I removed 'quiet splash' from my /etc/default/grub file, at I can't
determine what is hanging. I've removed the attached devices one by one,

This is still occurring, however, if I just log off and then login again once
the desktop is running, upon logging in again, the desktop loads very quickly.
I therefore wonder whether the hanging issue is related to startup rather than
