I am currently unable to test if the bug still exists on the latest
Ubuntu release, however if no attempt was made to fix the bug I think it
would be correct to assume that the bug is still present until it is
tested.

Edward, assuming that you are still running Lucid, you could try if this bug is
fixed with a newer driver module by installing:
linux-backports-modules-compat-wireless-2.6.38-lucid-generic
In general, rt2860 based hardware should work very well with new
rt2800pci modules. Especially 2.6.39.

The orinal submited bug is a real one involving the rt2860 driver.
With Ubuntu 9.10 kernels, no problem.

I have a different issue, but related to this driver:
I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Medion Akoya E1210 which has a Ralink 2860.
I have an Apple Airport Extreme and a Time Capsule who together create a single
wireless network. The Airport is connected to the internet and also runs as a
DHCP
Sorry, I figured out what the problem was after I read all th posts.
I deleted /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat (which was created by
installing the proprietary driver) and then the default Ubuntu driver worked in
all cases.

i was trying to fix this issue for days with a rt2870 chipset. on kernel
2.6.32.21-generic on ubuntu 10.4,
the ra0 interface was uploaded and it could scan the networks, but it
was impossible to connect.
I finnaly made it by leaving the RT2870STA.dat empty (with a #) and
rebooting the system.

the RT2870STA.dat file is at /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/

Declining the release specific nominations for now and leaving this open
against the actively developed Ubuntu kernel (which happens to be
Maverick at this time). Will re-open the nominations should a fix be
narrowed down which we can confirm specifically resolves this issue on a
per release
If no one else can help out, I can try with a fresh Maverick. I'm
currently not affected by the bug since I'm using a different hardware,
but I still have access to it. Will take a week or so, however as I'm
required to make a partition free for the new install.
