Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
Please upgrade to the latest version and re-test.
** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
Status:
You need it in both the hda controller and codec (aka routing).
if the hda controller does not have enough dma for two capture stream,
the driver should not expose the device to use
The problem is how can the application know which Input source control
should be used for which capture device
It seems like both mine and JOORIS's sound hardware supports recording
from both hda channels simultaneously, but AFAIK pulseaudio does not
support what you would like to do at the moment. I'm not 100% sure
though. At least there is no combine module to turn two sources into one
four-channel

Binary package hint: pulseaudio
With Sound card with multiple capture controls (2 source can be read at the
same time), only one is used.
On my Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 motherboard with a Realtek ALC888 integrated
For #2 : yes i can do that directly to alsa, but the main audio server
in ubuntu isn't pulseaudio ? and it can be interesting to record a song
for one application and another song to other application, or if the
application is capable, record two song at the same time for one
application.
For #3
It currently isn't feasible to depend on any underlying hardware
having this support. You need it in both the hda controller and codec
(aka routing). In the future, passing the raw stream to the hw will be
supported in pulse.

In fact, I have hardware somewhat similar to yours (Realtek ALC888,
motherboard GA-MA770T-UD3P), so I decided to give it a try here. I can
successfully record two channels simultaneously: I first set up
alsamixer to have one capture be the mic and the other line-in, and
levels at 0 dB. I then
Note that not all hardware supports this feature (both the controller
and the codec need to support it).

@Daniel: That is true. From the controller point of view, do you know
how to look it up whether this is supported or not? Read the specs,
source code, etc?
