Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I'm
going to close this bug since the first stable release of gnome-shell
wasn't until April 2011. Since the code has changed considerably since
the preview version available in the Ubuntu 10.10 archives, I don't
believe anyone wil

Ah, I see now, thanks. So, what I called the 'application title' is in
the .desktop files and gnome-panel isn't matching Firefox correctly.

I'm not convinced this is a Firefox bug. Firefox sets WM_NAME to the the
string it wants to be in the titlebar (which is correct, and also what
every other application is doing). The applications aren't setting any
"super name" or "application title" as you call it, but gnome-shell
looks like it is
