Just saw an identical error in the current daily quantal build.
Steps to reproduce:
- download current daily build for ubuntu desktop amd64 pc. (01-Sep-2012 08:38)
- Create a virtualbox configuration (use defaults for ubuntu64)
- Attach iso
- Boot VM
- choose 'install ubuntu'.

I have the same problem while trying to install 11.04 on my desktop (the
partitions are already there, from old Ubuntu 8 installation). During the first
step of the install, after clicking forward on screen with disk size and web
connection confirmation, I get an error ubi-partman failed with

I'm having the exact same problem (ubi-partman erroring out on
/var/lib/partman/outfifo) installing on my eeepc with 11.04 and 11.10.
Some potentially useful information: sda has 4 existing partitions, 1
ntfs, 1 swap and 2 linux (boot and root) in that order, and even though
the file outfifo does
