Hi,
I can get an image to come up, no problem. 1152x864 (that's what it
defaulted to with no config), I've even managed a 1280x1024. But this is
not much good on a 1680x1050 (widescreen) monitor. Oh I just double
checked, it is a 945GM

Okay these steps are really not difficult ;-)
and okay there is auto-magic...my internal 12" LCD comes up with 1280x800
(without xorg.conf! fantastic!)
But my external Display is still black and there is no Signal on it...
Xorg.0.log said it loads "i810" Module...I installed
xserver-xorg-video-i
Here's how the auto-magic worked for me.
1) Get the new xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting driver
2) remove the old xorg.conf (`sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak`)
3) Restart X with the cable already plugged in (logout and back in or
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace)
4) Image appears on both
I have a Amilo si1520 too...and unfortunately there is no auto-magic...
I only want a 1024x768 Resolution on a 15" LCD...

The driver seems to don't support 1366x768 resolution and to have
problems with my external monitor on pipe A if there is no
MonitorLayout-Option set. If you like, I can post xorg.conf and
Xorg.0.log of this cases.

Ok, I can reproduce the crash. If I start with my normal 1680x1050
configuration everything works fine, even the X restart but if I change the
settings to use the internal screen pc hangs after X restart. If I start
directly with the internal screen setting X doesn't start and gives me the
