I just ran sudo modprobe acer-wmi and that was enough to bring back the repeated disconnections. So was removing acer-wmi from blacklist.conf and rebooting. To make Ubuntu work for these machine /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf could "blacklist acer-wmi" by default. -END PGP PUBLIC KEY BL

This bug no longer exists in recent 3.2 kernels, and a kernel bisect exceeds my current experience and skills. I do NOT have "basic git skills, sorry about that. As I said before, the disconnects STOPPED when I started blacklisting the acer-wmi module, which others reported as causing the probl

Probably FIXED: With Linux 3.2.0-17 or 3.2.0-18, and with acer-wmi blacklisted, the slow connection speed seems to be resolved in connections to most routers at libraries, etc. Still keeping 2.6.38-8-generic around for any surprises for now. Blacklisting acer-wmi stopped the disconnects as stated

UPDATE: This bug was NOT present in a fresh install of Ubuntu Oneiric 64 bit on the offendingf laptop. I do not know, however, if this was because of the use of 64 bit or because some legacy file in my old install was confusing network-manager and wicd both. The original OS had been updated by c

When I attempted to connect using Linux 3.0.0-11.18-generic-pae, the wireless card came up as "not available" possibly a different bug. Rebooting with the 2.6.38-8-generic brought back the wireless card recognition. > Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2011 15:01:33 + > From: brad.f...@canonical.com > To: l
