I worked around the problem by recompiling libldap2 with openssl. It
seems there is either a bug in GnuTLS or some kind of interface bug
between ldap and gnutls.
This is not the first problem I encountered with openldap and gnutls.
Maybe we should link openldap with openssl in the distro?

version 0.1.17 will use udev instead of HAL.

I'm having the same problem with the live cd of Kubuntu 10.04 beta 2
ksoftirqd/0 uses up to 100 % of one cpu core.
More over, ubiquity hangs execution when doing the disk scanning.
Progress bar stops at 47%, and never gets to next step.
