The group I plan to use will be named pcscd instead of scard and is
designed to be used by the pcscd process only and not by a normal user.
GnuPG implements its own and direct CCID driver. I think this is an
error. GnuPG can also use the PC/SC API as any other (normal) smart card
application.
Interesting patch. But I (as upstream maintainer) can't apply it before
I understand the problem.
If you can write a small sample to reproduce the problem without using a
proprietary software I will have a look.
If it is not possible I have some questions:
- does the FIFO the code is trying to
The latest pcsc-lite 1.6.x do not use a fifo anymore. So the patch would
only be for the 1.5.x branch.
If I can't reproduce/understand the bug myself I will not apply the patch, even

libusb worked great in previous Ubuntu versions. Something changed in
Ubuntu 10.04 that makes libusb 0.1 fails.
Note that pcsc-lite should use libhal instead of libusb but libhal has been

I talk to someone at Sun but I don't know if this bug will be corrected one day.

It may be a very bad idea to make colormake replace make by default.
colormake generates color codes even if the output is not a terminal. If you do:
$ colormake foo
then foo will contain the color change codes.
It would break a lot of scripts that try to parse the output of make and

I had a similar bug: switching to a new user display a black screen with
only the mouse cursor.
I can switch to the text consoles (Ctrl-Alt-Fn) and to the first X
session. But it looks like the second X is mixed with the first one. I
can see the user selector a few milliseconds before the first X
Something similar here: Acer TravelMate 430 with Lucid 10.04.1 and
kernel 2.6.32-24-generic.
The system CPU is halted unless I move the mouse or press a key.

Martin-Éric, I agree with you: not being able to launch a smartcard-
authenticated network connection until /usr is mounted is unacceptable.
Note that libpcsclite.so.1 is not enough. The library talks to a pcscd
daemon (from the pcscd package in universe). On Ubuntu the daemon is
installed as
