[Bug 1654779] Re: installer crashes on grub installation (forced UEFI install) calling 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed

2017-01-18 Thread Someone Else
Thank you for taking the time to look into the issue. One thing I want
to note though, is that the installer also crashed, when I selected the
"safe" option. I think it even spit out the same error message, but I
don't remember 100%. But I think the problem had more to do with my
strange setup here. But once again thanks for taking your time!

[Bug 1654779] [NEW] installer crashes on grub installation (forced UEFI install) calling 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed

2017-01-07 Thread Someone Else
Public bug reported:

Tried a clean install of 16.04 from a USB stick in UEFI mode. Got a warning,
that another system (Win10) was installed on another disk in legacy mode and
might not boot, if I used force UEFI mode. Commenced with forced UEFI install
and at the end it stated:
errors were encountered wjile processing
grub-efi-amd64-signed
shim-signed
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
info: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed.
But I guess that's in the logfile as well.
A sudo apt-get install grub-efi-amd64-signed seems to have been successful. But
I'll have to reboot to see. Also I did sudo apt-get install shim-signed.
Hope you can find the bug. If you can't I'll gladly assist you trying to
recreate the same situation using an ssh oder whatever you prefere.

[Bug 868524] Re: Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button

2011-11-18 Thread Someone
In reply to Reece, that's again not what this defect report is about. I
don't expect you to manually check each and every application and add an
entry to open a new instance...

I simply request to leverage an existing functionality in Unity to make it more
comfortable.
It is already possible to open a new instance for an already running
application you use middle-click or super+shift+number/letter, I merely ask
for the addition of a shift+leftclick shortcut so it's more comfortable for
people with no middle mouse button (touchpads for example).

In addition there is no reason to have an entry with the name of an
application in it's right click menu in the launcher that does exactly
the same as clicking the application... so why not do what Windows 7
did? Windows 7 has the same entry in it's own right click menu
(jumplist) clicking it opens a new instance of an already running
application or just starts it if it's not running.

This is a change that would be done solely in Unity not in every single
application, and since as noted it's up to each application to handle
multiple instance or block them, this will work as intended and already
does work as intended using the existing shortcuts.

[Bug 880763] [NEW] IDLE doesn't need the -n flag by default anymore

2011-10-24 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

IDLE doesn't need the -n flag by default anymore as I just checked and
it seems that the patch for using a random port as been applied and IDLE

[Bug 878516] Re: Regression: snap to screen edges to view two windows side by side doesn't restore window size correctly

2011-10-24 Thread Someone
BTW I'm not sure that locked rail design is really good most users are
likely to be used to this feature from Windows 7 and as such will expect
it to behave as such and dragging a window on a rail like this really
isn't useful anyhow. If someone wants the ability to have a window that
is the entire height of the screen but only some of it's weight it's
best to implement a seperate shortcut to do this. (Windows 7 uses double
click on top/bottom edge)

[Bug 868524] Re: Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button

2011-10-20 Thread Someone
Yes, but I think it's logical to also have shift+leftclick on an icon do the
same (open a new instance)
Maybe also changing the entry that shows the application name on the quicklist
(right click menu) to open a new instance cause as it stands this entry is
useless.

[Bug 878516] Re: Regression: snap to screen edges to view two windows side by side doesn't restore window size correctly

2011-10-20 Thread Someone
I'm using nautilus to test this and it doesn't appear to be working as
intended.

I snap nautilus to the side and then drag it and it display the on-rail
behavior you describe but I can't de-maximize it, it will just
maximize it completely and restoring it from maximizing will still be at
the same size from the snap.

Also when it's snapped the maximize button is a de-maximize one but a
standard maximize button which will maximize the window and upon
restoring will restore to a size slightly smaller from the top border.

Also dragging a snapped window will have it show after dragging slightly
smaller from the bottom border.

It really doesn't feel like it's working as intended.

[Bug 875785] Re: Guest session from a running session fails to start unity or bail out to another desktop

2011-10-20 Thread Someone
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.11

Not software rendered:no
Not blacklisted: yes
GLX fbconfig: yes
GLX texture from pixmap: no
GL npot or rect textures: yes
GL vertex program:yes
GL fragment program: yes
GL vertex buffer object: yes
GL framebuffer object:yes
GL version is 1.4+: yes

Unity 3D supported: no

Strange that it says Unity 3D unsupported as my previous session was
unity 3D.

I'm running Ubuntu under VirtualBox so it might be related to the 3D
acceleration support from VirtualBox acting up (The module vboxvideo
form the guest additions)

Thankfully the ctrl+alt+t shortcut to open a terminal still works in
this strange session so I can use a terminal to run commands and
programs freely.

Well make sure you are using Unity 3D and not 2D, if you are using Unity 3D (I
can't tell from the screenshot)
Then it might be a bug with the VirtualBox 3D virtual graphics adapter and i'll
forward it to their bug tracker.

[Bug 878516] [NEW] Regression: snap to screen edges to view two windows side by side doesn't restore window size correctly

2011-10-19 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 11.04 when you snapped a window to the left/right screen edges and
later removed it, it returned to it's original size.
In Ubuntu 11.10 it stays in the size it got when it snapped to the left/right
screen edges. It should restore to it's original size like it did in Ubuntu
11.04, there is no point in it staying in the size it got when snapped, it's
just awkward.

[Bug 868524] Re: Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button

2011-10-18 Thread Someone
I can't understand your logic.
In nearly every single system I've seen it's up to the application itself to
prevent multiple instances or handle them correctly (e.g. open a new tab)
You can already open a new instance of the application by just selecting it in
the Dash again or using the shortcuts which are already available mentioned in
the bug description.

This bug/enhancement request merely request providing a shortcuts that
are more accessible without a middle mouse button.

[Bug 723861] Re: Right clicking on the desktop still displays the “Create Launcher...” option.

2011-10-17 Thread Someone
This change is really bad... I have seen so many complaints about it on the
Internet.
What's wrong with having a way to create a custom .desktop launchers easily?

There just needs to be something to replace this feature.
I have seen there is a project to edit the Launcher but there also needs to be
a way to edit the Dash and then I guess you can use the drag and drop
functionality recently added to add the launcher to the desktop.

[Bug 876876] [NEW] Unity 2D doesn't allow to drag an icon from the Dash to desktop like Unity 3D

2011-10-17 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

Unity 2D doesn't allow to drag an icon from the Dash to desktop like Unity 3D
does.
It generates a broken file which appears to be a symbolic link to the launcher
which gives an error about an untrusted launcher upon clicking it.

This should be fixed and implemented like in Unity 3D.

[Bug 873128] Re: GDM ignores LC_MESSAGES (as set by Language Support)

2011-10-14 Thread Someone
Yes the behavior you describe is what I'm seeing.

In Ubuntu 11.04 I need to press apply system-wide in the Language tab in
addition to apply system wide in the regional tab.

And in Ubuntu 11.10 pressing apply system wide in the region tab also
does it for the language tab.

Thank you.
I guess this isn't a bug more a design issue that what already fixed in Ubuntu
11.10

[Bug 873726] Re: Mouse Pointer flicker on System settings icons

2011-10-14 Thread Someone
** Description changed:

I'm seeing the mouse pointer flickers and disappears when moving the mouse
pointer over icons in the main system settings dialog.
Also the mouse seems to generally flicker in all sorts of places like buttons
in all applications.

- Tested this using a Ubuntu 11.10 LiveCD guest with Unity 2D under
- VirtualBox 4.1.4 (Windows 7 Host) Guest Additions not installed.
+ Tested this using a Ubuntu 11.10 LiveCD guest with Unity 2D under VirtualBox
4.1.4 (Windows 7 Host) Guest Additions not installed.
+ VirtualBox 4.1.4 gives the guest a tablet device instead of a regular mouse
before installing the guest additions. this allows VirtualBox to support mouse
pointer integration before installing the guest additions.
+ The bug might be caused by problematic handling of Tablet devices in Ubuntu.

[Bug 873766] [NEW] Authentication dialog header string ignores LC_MESSAGES

2011-10-13 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

When you see an authentication dialog from some applications like the
software-center or update-manager the authentication dialog header
string ignores the LC_MESSAGES variables and displays the string using
the current locale as set in language support (LANG environment variable
if I'm not mistaken) even when you have the language for menus and
windows set to a different language (LC_MESSAGES environment variable).

I'm also seeing this behavior with the string Receiving when
installing packages from any program. It displays in the language set
for my locale instead of the language set for menus and windows.

By authentication dialog I mean the one other then gksudo which I think
comes from policykit.

[Bug 873128] [NEW] GDM ignores LC_MESSAGES (as set by Language Support)

2011-10-12 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

GDM is ignoring the LC_MESSAGES environment variable as set by the
Language Support option when clicking apply system wide for the regional
settings with a different desktop display language.

This means that if you set a region different than the language in which
you choose to display the desktop and use the apply system wide, GDM
will display in the language of the region setting instead of the one
the desktop is displayed in.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have your desktop set to some language and your region to the same.
2. Change your region setting and press apply system wide.
3. Logout and view the language GDM is in

[Bug 868524] [NEW] Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button

2011-10-05 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

I was told to file a bug instead of a suggestion in brainstorm for this (see:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/28622/)
There needs to be an alternate way to open a new instance of an already running
application.
Currently the only way to achieve this is a middle click or a shift+meta+number.

When right clicking an application there is an entry with the
application name logically clicking it should start a new instance (ala
Windows 7) but it doesn't. I think this should be changed.

Also to complement the shift+meta+number shortcut a shift+click should
also open a new instance of an already running application. (also works
in Windows 7)

I had the same problem.
In my case it was a missing option in the network-manager configuration on the
client side.

Please check your configuration.

Since I am using german kubuntu 11.04 I only can tell the german kde
options name:

Tab IP-Adresse, Option (Sub-Tab) Routen; Option Nur für Quellen
dieser Verbindung verwenden has to be checked.

Well I found a solution for the sound indicator applet, but it's quite
stupid handle a simple think like this with a different method. What I
did was to include in the Startup programs this line:

gnome-volume-control-applet

That was a solution what i found in Ubuntu Forums...

Good luck...

AMAZING an opearating system with the best feature ever:
PANEL SHUFFLE!

It is guaranteed to shuffle your panel icons so you can have a messed up panel
every time you change your screen!
This feature was inspired by the shuffle feature in most media players, so why
should you only be able to shuffle you music when you can shuffle your panel!

Download any version of Linux with Gnome and you can to enjoy the
amazing feature that is GNOME PANEL SHUFFLE!!!

[Bug 474705] [NEW] Screen resolution sometimes becomes really small in gdm when running Ubuntu under VirtualBox

2009-11-04 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The screen resolution sometimes becomes really small in gdm when running Ubuntu
under VirtualBox.
This is a problem since the logic screen doesn't have enough place for its
bottom bar to appear completely and this resolution becomes the desktop
resolution after login which forces me to change afterwards it also triggers
Bug #44082 which makes it worse.

I still think that the login screen should use the resolution the user
set for the desktop, Automatically deciding a resolution for it isn't
always right.

What I expected to happen:
The login screen would use the resolution I choose for the desktop and wont
spontaneously choose a different resolution.

What happened instead:
The login screen sometimes uses a different resolution than the desktop and
that resolution is sometimes to small or to big which makes it quite
uncomfortable.

- Description: Ubuntu 9.10
- Release: 9.10

The screen resolution sometimes becomes really small in gdm when running
Ubuntu under VirtualBox.

+
+ What I expected to happen:
+ The login screen would use the resolution I choose for the desktop and wont
spontaneously choose a different resolution.
+
+ What happened instead:
+ The login screen sometimes uses a different resolution than the desktop and
that resolution is sometimes to small or to big which makes it quite
uncomfortable.

For the least Ubuntu still does work...

But id rather this auto-login issue not to happen, Especially since it
might get worse in later versions of Ubuntu or might be a sign of a bug
in another place.

Add ability to use scroll wheel to switch workspaces with desktop effects set

I have grown used to this feature but i sometimes have to work with Ubuntu on

should be an option disabled by default because not all users like this feature)

The LiveCD displays gdm auto-login after 10 seconds screen instead of just
logging in automatically.
Which might confuse users making them to try and type in the username/password

I know gdm has the ability to auto-login without any countdown, since
this option is available under its configuration dialog and is also
offered during installation of Ubuntu.

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2009-05-30 Thread Someone
I can confirm this to with Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, gnome 2.26.1.

After restart, what mostly happens it that the top panel right side
applets (notification area, volume control, etc.) switch places even the
shutdown button and separator.

It happens whether the applets are locked or unlocked, and whether i
change resolution before restarting or not.

This is really annoying and i reall wish it will be fixed.

[Bug 294627] Re: PC crash during server 8.10 x64 install with 3ware 9560SE

2008-11-07 Thread Someone
Hi,

I just finished looking at that page and I have a question.

How is the log file saved to /var/log/installer/partman if the HDD is
not formatted yet when it crashes and restarts the PC?

Should I be looking more at the ubiquity --debug option? Is that
something that can be entered before starting the server install? Where
would the output log file be saved?

Basically I cannot even see the partition part of the setup while the
3ware 9650 card has drives attached...the pc just reboots when it hits
that part.

Thanks.

[Bug 294627] [NEW] PC crash during server 8.10 x64 install with 3ware 9560SE

2008-11-06 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

I recently built a computer to use as a home server. While attempting
to install Ubuntu Server 8.10 x64 (no special options, just choose the
first option from the boot menu) the installer would always crash as it
got to the partition part of the setup. It looked like it would load
the module for the partition setup...then all of the sudden the PC would
reboot. I never saw an error message, after the partition module the
screen went black then the pc was rebooting.

I tried running the desktop LiveCD options, all of the following worked without
errors (all x64 versions):
Ubuntu 8.04
Ubuntu 8.10 RC
Ubuntu 8.10
Kubuntu 8.04
Kubuntu 8.10 RC

When getting to the live environment my 36GB WD Raptor and RAID5
(4x320GB WD HDD) could be accessed without issues. I read that the
3ware controller is natively supported by the kernel that ships with
8.04 and onwards. So, determined to install Ubuntu Server I figured I
would start removing components until the install would get past the
partition setup.

So I removed the 3ware 9650SE RAID controller and tried setup again.
This time I was able to partition my 36GB and finish the install. After
the install I re-attached the 3ware raid controller and it worked just
fine. A few days later I decided to reformat and install again...I ran
into the same issue. This time I left the 3ware raid card in the system
and just removed the drives and the install finished (this is probably
due to the fact that if no drives are connected then the 3ware card is
basically disabled).

So, there is something about the 3ware 9650SE card that the partition
routine doesn't like. I can't seem to install if I leave drives
attached to it. Also, I tried GParted from the LiveCD's and that would
also cause my system to reboot if the 3ware controller had drives
attached. I even tried the GParted LiveCD and that too crashed.

One interesting thing about GParted was that it did not crash when I ran
it from the server install (I installed GNOME Desktop on the server just
to mess around since I was going to format it again anyways).

Computer Specs:
Motherboard: GA-78G-DS3H
CPU: AMD 6000+ 89W
RAM: 4GB G. Skill DDR2 800 (4-4-4-12)
HDD:
1 36GB WD Raptor (main drive for OS)
4x 320GB WD drives attached to a 3ware 9650SE controller card configured for
RAID5 (storage drive)
Power: Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W
Case: Antec 900 (5x 120mm fans, 1x 200mm fan)
Other: 5x3 SATA Hot-Swap (5 vertical hot-swap drive bays in 3 bays of 5.25
space) for RAID array

The motherboard and 3ware card have the latest bios. I updated them from a
Windows XP install before installing Ubuntu. The 36GB used to have WinXP Pro
installed. The RAID5 array was formatted as one large NTFS drive.

Is there any other info I can provide that will help determine the cause
of the problem? I'm a newbie to linux so if there are specific commands
I need to run please give me full instructions on how to execute them.

Thanks,
Someone
