[Bug 1654779] Re: installer crashes on grub installation (forced UEFI install) calling 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed
Thank you for taking the time to look into the issue. One thing I want to note though, is that the installer also crashed, when I selected the "safe" option. I think it even spit out the same error message, but I don't remember 100%. But I think the problem had more to do with my strange setup here. [Bug 1654779] [NEW] installer crashes on grub installation (forced UEFI install) calling 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed
Public bug reported: Tried a clean install of 16.04 from a USB stick in UEFI mode. Got a warning, that another system (Win10) was installed on another disk in legacy mode and might not boot, if I used force UEFI mode. Commenced with forced UEFI install and at the end it stated: errors were encountered wjile processing grub-efi-amd64-signed shim-signed E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) info: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed. But I guess that's in the logfile as well. A sudo apt-get install grub-efi-amd64-signed seems to have been successful. But I'll have to reboot to see. Also I did sudo apt-get install shim-signed. Hope you can find the bug. [Bug 868524] Re: Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button
In reply to Reece, that's again not what this defect report is about. I don't expect you to manually check each and every application and add an entry to open a new instance... I simply request to leverage an existing functionality in Unity to make it more comfortable. It is already possible to open a new instance for an already running application you use middle-click or super+shift+number/letter, I merely ask for the addition of a shift+leftclick shortcut so it's more comfortable for people with no middle mouse button (touchpads for example). In addition there is no reason to have an entry with the name of an application in it's right click menu in the launcher that does exactly the same as clicking the application... so why not do what Windows 7 did? Windows 7 has the same entry in it's own right click menu (jumplist) clicking it opens a new instance of an already running application or just starts it if it's not running. This is a change that would be done solely in Unity not in every single application, and since as noted it's up to each application to handle multiple instance or block them, this will work as intended and already does work as intended using the existing shortcuts. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868524 Title: Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/868524/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 878516] Re: Regression: snap to screen edges to view two windows side by side doesn't restore window size correctly
BTW I'm not sure that locked rail design is really good most users are likely to be used to this feature from Windows 7 and as such will expect it to behave as such and dragging a window on a rail like this really isn't useful anyhow. If someone wants the ability to have a window that is the entire height of the screen but only some of it's weight it's best to implement a seperate shortcut to do this. I'm using nautilus to test this and it doesn't appear to be working as intended. I snap nautilus to the side and then drag it and it display the on-rail behavior you describe but I can't de-maximize it, it will just maximize it completely and restoring it from maximizing will still be at the same size from the snap. Also when it's snapped the maximize button is a de-maximize one but a standard maximize button which will maximize the window and upon restoring will restore to a size slightly smaller from the top border. Also dragging a snapped window will have it show after dragging slightly smaller from the bottom border. It really doesn't feel like it's working as intended. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878516 Title: Regression: snap to screen edges to view two windows side by side doesn't restore window size correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/878516/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Also the mouse seems to generally flicker in all sorts of places like buttons in all applications. - Tested this using a Ubuntu 11.10 LiveCD guest with Unity 2D under - VirtualBox 4.1.4 (Windows 7 Host) Guest Additions not installed. + Tested this using a Ubuntu 11.10 LiveCD guest with Unity 2D under VirtualBox 4.1.4 (Windows 7 Host) Guest Additions not installed. + VirtualBox 4.1.4 gives the guest a tablet device instead of a regular mouse before installing the guest additions. this allows VirtualBox to support mouse pointer integration before installing the guest additions. + The bug might be caused by problematic handling of Tablet devices in Ubuntu. [Bug 873766] [NEW] Authentication dialog header string ignores LC_MESSAGES
Public bug reported: When you see an authentication dialog from some applications like the software-center or update-manager the authentication dialog header string ignores the LC_MESSAGES variables and displays the string using the current locale as set in language support (LANG environment variable if I'm not mistaken) even when you have the language for menus and windows set to a different language (LC_MESSAGES environment variable). [Bug 868524] [NEW] Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button
Public bug reported: I was told to file a bug instead of a suggestion in brainstorm for this (see: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/28622/) There needs to be an alternate way to open a new instance of an already running application. Currently the only way to achieve this is a middle click or a shift+meta+number. When right clicking an application there is an entry with the application name logically clicking it should start a new instance (ala Windows 7) but it doesn't. I think this should be changed. Also to complement the shift+meta+number shortcut a shift+click should also open a new instance of an already running application. Since I am using german kubuntu 11.04 I only can tell the german kde options name: Tab IP-Adresse, Option (Sub-Tab) Routen; Option Nur für Quellen dieser Verbindung verwenden has to be checked. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788568 Title: nm-openvpn sets default route via tun0 though that's not configured in the openvpn config file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/788568/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tried running the desktop LiveCD options, all of the following worked without errors (all x64 versions): Ubuntu 8.04 Ubuntu 8.10 RC Ubuntu 8.10 Kubuntu 8.04 Kubuntu 8.10 RC When getting to the live environment my 36GB WD Raptor and RAID5 (4x320GB WD HDD) could be accessed without issues. I read that the 3ware controller is natively supported by the kernel that ships with 8.04 and onwards. So, determined to install Ubuntu Server I figured I would start removing components until the install would get past the partition setup. So I removed the 3ware 9650SE RAID controller and tried setup again. This time I was able to partition my 36GB and finish the install. After the install I re-attached the 3ware raid controller and it worked just fine. A few days later I decided to reformat and install again...I ran into the same issue. This time I left the 3ware raid card in the system and just removed the drives and the install finished (this is probably due to the fact that if no drives are connected then the 3ware card is basically disabled). So, there is something about the 3ware 9650SE card that the partition routine doesn't like. I can't seem to install if I leave drives attached to it. Also, I tried GParted from the LiveCD's and that would also cause my system to reboot if the 3ware controller had drives attached. I even tried the GParted LiveCD and that too crashed. One interesting thing about GParted was that it did not crash when I ran it from the server install (I installed GNOME Desktop on the server just to mess around since I was going to format it again anyways). Computer Specs: Motherboard: GA-78G-DS3H CPU: AMD 6000+ 89W RAM: 4GB G. Skill DDR2 800 (4-4-4-12) HDD: 1 36GB WD Raptor (main drive for OS) 4x 320GB WD drives attached to a 3ware 9650SE controller card configured for RAID5 (storage drive) Power: Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W Case: Antec 900 (5x 120mm fans, 1x 200mm fan) Other: 5x3 SATA Hot-Swap (5 vertical hot-swap drive bays in 3 bays of 5.25 space) for RAID array The motherboard and 3ware card have the latest bios. I updated them from a Windows XP install before installing Ubuntu. The 36GB used to have WinXP Pro installed. The RAID5 array was formatted as one large NTFS drive. Is there any other info I can provide that will help determine the cause of the problem? I'm a newbie to linux so if there are specific commands I need to run please give me full instructions on how to execute them. [Bug 199458] Re: cannot use refresh rate of 100Hz with Sony Multiscan G200 + Nvidia FX5200 (WinXp works)
Sure tried everything means editing xorg.conf by hand, using different Nvidia driver versions, not using Nvidia drivers (but adapter runs hot so I have to use restricted drivers necessarily). No Linux ever worked for me but as already mentioned the hardware can as WinXp shows. -- cannot use refresh rate of 100Hz with Sony Multiscan G200 + Nvidia FX5200 (WinXp works) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199458 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
