Somehow i managed to fix this.
i cant remember now what was exactly what fixed it because i tried
lots of things.
but most probably it has something to do with swap space.
When you hibernate your computer the present state of the machine is
saved in swap space.
Make sure you have enough swap space
Steffen, are you still able to reproduce this problem? If you can, a
transcript demonstrating the problem would be helpful, so that we can
start to debug it.

I've been experiencing exactly the same problem on a Dell D420 laptop

You probably didnt have the new kernel loaded before you uninstalled it.
Ubuntu defaults to the standard kernel unless you reorder your entries
in grub (there is some way to edit the comments in /boot/grub/menu.lst

Ran /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 from a terminal. Error
message said could not delete file null and a subsequent line that there

Having had the patch reviewed, it was suggested that given the age of
the nfsd_serv symbol we could simply check that alone. Based on that
attached is an updated patch with that simplification.

The crash can be avoided by commenting out
sp_document_set_undo_sensitive (local_doc, false);
and
sp_document_set_undo_sensitive (local_doc, saved);
in write_to_xml in the file src/ui/widget/registered-widget.h
