If using a VPN, the rules of the local network are no longer the
relevant ones -- in particular, after connecting to a work VPN I found
that I need to tell all web traffic to use a proxy server otherwise I
cannot access web pages external to the VPN's local network.
I've found that an explicit restart of nm-applet (with pkill and then
just running nm-applet -- maybe there's a better way) brings the applet
back to a useable state. Restarting the network-manager infrastructure,
on the other hand, does not seem to fully refresh the applet.

I see the same on Xubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. Restarting the network-
manager service has no effect, but explicitly pkill nm-applet nm-
applet does the trick: thanks @chaghi et al

track number into M4A/AAC files, at least not when converting from FLAC,
but with an upgrade to the Ubuntu Maverick RC the track artist metadata

I have exactly the same problem in Lucid (a Karmic upgrade rather than
fresh install). I found the answer (and hence this bug report) via

I agree: from Web browsers it's now normal to expect to be able to
right-click on a link and get a context menu with a Copy link location
entry... useful particularly if you want to open a Gwibber link in a
non-default Web browser, or paste somewhere else.

Installing the libroot-python metapackage, or a versioned instantiation
such as libroot-python5.18, does not produce a usable PyROOT system:
libroot-python-dev is required to actually provide the ROOT.py file,

packages would be to symlink the PyROOT .py and .so module files into
/usr/lib/pythonXX/dist-packages -- I see that there are already symlinks
into /usr/share/pyshared, but that location is not directly placed in

There is an extra confusion if sshfs *is* installed, but the user is not
in the fuse group: fusermount cannot be run, but the SSH syncing option
