The HD problems seem to have been caused by the HW RAID formatting on
the hard drive I tried. With a brand new hardware drive, Ubuntu 8.10
64-bit installed flawlessly.

Intel DX58SO 64-bit (and 32-bit) install issues
Public bug reported:
I made two accounts one for gnome and one for kde. So I login to gnome
first as normal then log in the other account (at the same time) to kde.
This then locks the gnome session so now in kde when i press Ctrl-
Alt-F7 to go back to gnome i am greeted with a white screen
Works for me as well. I previously had issues, but that was due to the
fixes that I had in for the earlier releases of the Flash player
plugin. However, after I edited the mms.cfg in /etc/adobe it works fine.
I am running 10.0 r15 as well in Ubuntu 8.04 with FF 3.06.
Just out of curiousity,
I'm seeing the same problem -- Ubuntu 8.10, x86

Scratch my last comment. I still had the /etc/adobe/mms.cfg file in
place. As soon as I commented out the WindowlessDisable=True everything
worked as it supposed to work.

Public bug reported:
I am having a number of issues installing 64-bit Ubuntu 8.10 on a Intel
DX58SO (Core i7) motherboard.
The 32-bit Ubuntu live CD/installer runs fine, but when I try the 64-bit
installers, I get errors like:
ata1.01: status: { DRDY ERR }
ata1.01: error: { ABRT }
ata1.01:

FYI, I have just tested WPA2 on Windows XP on this laptop and it
connects fine, so the hardware is capable of connecting to WPA2.
I have a multi-boot setup and XP connects fine every time, but Ubuntu
8.10 etc. never connects. This particular test was of the Ubuntu 8.10
that I have permanently
In Ubuntu 8.10 amd64, it still blink after I tried Joseph's script.
But in ubuntu 8.10 x86 edition, it works well.

@Chris Jackson
I have just retested WPA2 (not WPA+WPA2) on 8.10. I cannot connect with WPA2.
I can connect just fine with WPA. I even tried forcing AES or TKIP with WPA2.
No dice. I have an RT2860 PCCARD that I test with in this same laptop and it
connects fine to either WPA or WPA2
