This patch only partially fixes the problem. While it finds
installations on crypted volumes and generates grub menus for them,
those menus are mal-formed because of an other bug in linux-boot-prober.
Do you have a pointer to the upstream repository?

Problem is already fixed in newest upstream v656.
Any chance to see v656 (or at least v649) in 24.04 or 24.04.1?

Done.
But I have to admit that I had a hard time to find the correct location
of the upstream repository.
Maybe the link to the upstream could be placed somewhere on the bug-
reporting page on launchpad?

The problem is, that the graphical menu, which resides in isolinux/txt.cfg is
still displayed on the VGA instead of the serial line.
Any hints what I need to do to redirect this to the serial line?

Unfortunately, I still see this bug in 2.6.1-6.
I experience the same problem, although I have not changed the output
directory (so it's still at its default ~/PDF) and the proposed lines in
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd are set as suggested above.
I don't see how the bug could have been fixed
I have now tried to set the output directory to /var/tmp/PDF and set
this directory to mode 1777
The result is the same: the file is created, then deleted, and at the
end comes the error message that the file mode could not be set. Not a
big surprise, since changing the mode of a deleted file is
Sebastien, what makes you think that the bug is not related to gnome-
panel?
Given the fact that
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/panel ; pkill gnome-panel
fixes it, makes me believe that the bug is triggered by some panel
settings and therefore by the behavior of the panel.

An additional annoyance of this bug is that you get error mails from
/etc/cron.daily/apt every day if the admin don't use gnome and the
.gconf directory does not exist. If you run lots of servers, it gets
very annoying.
Please, can somebody apply the patch that Sree attached?

An additional annoyance is if the admin user don't use gnome (e.g. on a
server) and don't have a .gconf directory. In this case, an error mail
is generated every day even if you don't use a proxy at all. If you have
lots of servers, it gets _very_ annoying.

I wonder if it would be possible to use a vlan enabled interface for d-i

Please upgrade clisp to a newer version (latest is 2.48).
clisp-2.44.1 seems to be planned for Karmic.

Hello,
The ppp-udeb package used to be available on the alternate install CD up
to 8.10. Since 9.04 (and up to 9.10-alpha4) this package is no longer
on the CD image. Because of that, installation over a ppp line is no

Does that mean that ppp-udeb was completely removed from the image?

In Ubuntu 8.10, the wording has been changed to reflect the actual

Thanks for conforming the problem, Concentus.
Can you please explain what you mean with not use any md-devices?
AFAIK, crypted partitions always use md-devices.
BTW: AFAICS, the problem is related to the type of the encryption key
and not to the partition type. When I use swap with a passphrase
No, this is not printed. And in fact, ctrl-D won't reboot, either.
There is really, really no way to properly reboot at this stage.
reboot -f is _not_ a proper workaround, since it will not umount/sync
filesystems properly.
BTW: This bug still exists in 8.04rc. :-(
