containers up, and also run an IDE (PhpStorm) and Firefox with about a
million tabs open (bad habit, I know).
Each of these things consumes memory, so typically I don't have that much free
RAM.

why, and apparently, the oomd service is not being started, because a
precondition which checks for /usr/bin/oomd_bin being an

I have this issue as well. Rebooted my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th gen today,
and now I'm getting these UI lockups for a few seconds every few
minutes, even though the mouse cursor still moves and Spotify keeps
playing what it is playing.
In my case, this seems related to PhpStorm 2020.1. It's enough
I'll switch to 20.04 as soon as it's released, thanks. Is the spinner
there by default by any chance?
Regarding 1. being not a bug in general, I'm tempted to disagree.
Windows does that somehow, which means it must be possible for Linux to
do as well. Although I do understand that perhaps it's
3 and 4 then, I guess?
Also, thanks for the pointers! I don't think the symptoms we're having are
exactly same, but they're close enough to give it a shot at considering them as
such.
Here's where I think our experience differs:
- My impression from bug 1838725 is that sometimes you don't see

orange globe and a nice computer with a brown desktop. If only someone

I get a very similar error after each power failure as well as after
each hibernation attempt. Booting into recovery mode and then pressing
ctrl+alt+del solves the problem, but this is very annoying. Especially
because grub takes about a minute, or maybe even two to display its
menu, and then

hmm...
I guess my problem is out too, as my non-laptop restarts seem to have been
caused by misconfiguration of lm-sensors (/etc/sensors.conf).
Anyways, my PC is now undergoing warranty reparations, as yesterday I found out
that my PSU cooler wouldn't spin (causing emergency reboots again, heh).

The system now works as expected.
The devs should take a look at Bug #56854, and maybe fix that too, at
least for the next version of *buntu...

hm...
now that I've upgraded from 2.6.15-27 to 2.6.15-28, my system doesnt' boot with
the new kernel. I guess it's because I have /dev/sdc all around in fstab. Will
changing of sdc to sda in it fix the boot problem for me?

Again: the problem for me arises even on a non-notebook computer which I
assembled just hacf a year ago, so it's not yet choking with dust.
Those emergency shutdowns piss me off. Expecially when GRUB is now so
sensitive about uncleanly unmounted partitions, forcing me to log into
single-user mode
I think it's closed now.
