I think this is the problem I am getting as well after upgrade to Natty.
I get nothing on the screen without GRUB_TERMINAL=console enabled. My
HP vs17x monitor just complains about the settings and asks for

since been done to enable the new peer to peer MSN service in empathy
and was made available in Ubuntu version 10.10.

You can remove the driver using ndisgtk, then remove ndisgtk and the
other packages installed with it using apt-get, but this does not stop
the ndiswapper module being loaded. To do that you also have to
manually remove the ndiswrapper configuration files.

microphone is detected and selected, and I can record from it.

OpenOffice.org dialogue boxes' checked, you get dialogue boxes that
allow you to right click and Delete.

Yes, I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid, and after that upgrade I could not
boot normally (only in rescue mode using a Karmic kernel and then only
in a console). So the /home that I retained, when I re-installed, was
from that dist-upgrade.
In /home I have profiles for myself and my wife.

I renamed .compiz with no effect, except on first reboot the boot
stopped when it encountered the error given in bug #562843.
However, re-creating .config/gnome-session cured my problem with both
window decoration and saving the Visual Effects setting. On first
reboot, window
Further to this, if Visual Effects in Appearance are changed to Normal,
this setting is not retained. On reboot it will be set back to None and
Window Decoration will be missing. Visual Effects have to be reset to
Normal after every boot to get Window Decoration.
