I have just verified the -proposed kernel, and the correction works as
expected.
To be more specific, I did the tests on this release: 4.4.0-117-generic

This bug still exists in 10.04 LTS. The (invalid encoding) is just a
superfluous annoying warning, which makes renaming files more difficult
and cumbersome in Ubuntu (than e.g. on MS Windows). The symbol is
clear and visible enough to be sufficient as indication of an invalid
encoding.

I have Brasero 2.30.2 installed with Ubuntu 10.04.1.
Just today I installed cdrdao from default Ubuntu repos to finally get
Braseo to work, but I find this message in Brasero under Extras
Plugins: The version of cdrdao is too old.
dpkg -l | grep libao2\|cdrdao

I get the same error on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Brasero 2.30.2. The system
was installed just a few days ago from scratch.
I do have gstreamer installed. This was the solution suggested in
Question #96269. It did not help.
dpkg -l|grep gstreamer
ii bluez-gstreamer 4.60-0ubuntu8 Bluetooth GStreamer
Rhythmbox 0.12.8 also fails to burn audio CDs from playlists - guess it
uses Brasero so this is expected.
I am unable to enable the brasero plugins just like James Schriver 7
months ago. I wonder if there is a work aound?
Just in case this matters, I also have AMD64 architecture:
uname -a
Linux
I was able to resize windows by dragging the edges over 2 monitors using
9.04 with Nvidia drivers. After upgrading via 9.10 to 10.04 this is not
possible anymore. I lost over an hour to find out about the issue.
The workarounds ALT-F8 and ALT-middle button do work - but I find it rather
Several upgrades later with Thunderbird 3.0.10 and Ubuntu 10.04.1 I do
not experience this error any more.
