As a data point, I am using an ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 and AMD 6350 on Ubuntu Studio 14.04. I do little live recording with the desktop - laptop gets used for that, but the ASUS works well for post-production mixing and editing of both audio and video. Looks like the O.P. might be in the
