I purchased a Logitech C270 HD Webcam which according to this site http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/#devices is compatible with Linux. I ran up a Live CD of Ubuntu 11.10 and connected the camera. the camera works but the microphone does not work at all. (The mic works in Windows). Is there a way

In addition, it may be of interest to mention here that I also run a couple of groups within the U3A 'clubs'. I've recently joined Northampton U3A. I'm intending to attend a computing group next month however having spoken to the leader there doesn't currently seem to be a lot of interest
