As it turns out, this seems to be related to the dropbox client.
The dropbox client pulls in a lot of gnome dependencies (nautilus,
mainly), which seems to confuse KDE to some extend. The problem
disappears when I shut down the dropbox client and kill the nautilus
processes spawned by it.

I still have this problem as well, under 9.10 it is even heavier than under
ther earlier Uby's.
With those verticalartefacts the system is just unworkable.
The only workaround still is to use vesa graphics, without *any* hardware
enhancement.

I also had Stellarium crash after upgrading on an IBM T30. The video
card is ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW (AGP) and I was using the radeon
(not ati) X driver. The error reports in dmesg as segfault in
radeon_dri.so

command, and through removing the appropriate xorg device driver module

Doing all updates the system is offering didn't change anything. :(
So my system is still anoying me. I can only work with it by exiting to
the console and running the command sudo initctl restart kdm there.

I believe this is a Xorg/X11 problem, not a kernel related.
The problem is that X can not handle keycodes above 255.
A workaround is patching the kernel that an other keycode 255 is used.

I have an ati 3200 hd card. It is an integrated graphics chip/card on my
780g mini-itx motherboard. None of the ati releases of fglrx work with
this card and I get this error when I try to use them via enabling the
driver. I was able to enable and not have this problem when I was
running Jaunty.
If I enable the fglrx driver, then I get a flashing console login screen
and xwindows does not load when I reboot. In order to fix this, I have
to delete xorg.conf; at which point, the console login screen stops
flashing and I think xwindows begins to load automatically (i am not
sure exactly/i
