I copied the above sections to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf replacing the

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a person his pc (dual boot with Windows)

On further testing of the configuration in post #49, I have found
instabilities in both Blender v2.49b and v2.5-alpha0.
Both versions startup fine. v2.49b seems to run a little smoother than

Although I understand this issue is fixed in karmic, I found that if I
issue (under karmic)
cat /proc/mtrr
I see the output shows that mtrr is not set up.
I can fix it for my gpu card by issuing a
sudo -s
echo base=0xe000 size=0x1000 type=write-combining | /proc/mtrr

I have Radeon Xpress 200 (RC410) on Foxconn RC410MA motherboard
Hibernate works fine
I also cannot resume from suspend. I have checked only with Karmic.
I didn't try building kernels and stuff but would surely try it when I have
enough time
Being a desktop user suspend doesn't matter much to me.

I, too, had a similar problem (with nvidia-glx-195 on a Karmic box), and
the problem cleared up after I installed linux-headers-generic-pae. I'm
now successfully running 2.6.31-16-generic-pae and nvidia-glx-195 and
seeing all 4 GB of RAM in my system.
