Well, I just went to shut that system down and the bug is back.
Currently running the Nouveau driver. This time there is no high CPU
use. I did not have to kill Xorg but I did sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart
to get my screen back. So it is some issue with the logout transition. I

two-finger scrolling does not work on Asus EeePC 1201T
the file is the grub configuration file:
/etc/default/grub
edit it with for example: sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
and add the option acpi=off into already existing
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=
save the file!!!
after that update the grub for the changes to take efekt
run: sudo update-grub
and
for the first reboot, the graphics was ugly (resolution, icons, wallpaper,
gtk), but after I changed it,
it remembered everything and the system works well. (hopefully I didnt disable
such an important thing).

I have installed Lucid on E4310 and everything works fine. Now I'm
trying to connect dual FullHD Dell screens via a docking station's DVI

I have the same issue...
Kubuntu 9.10 64 bit
XServer 1.7.6
Ati 4870 with proprietary drivers from ATI 10.5
Kernel 2.6.32-22-generic
Running on a i7 920 intel system.
In my case a cold start hangs always at the Kubuntu blue screen with the white
dots. Nothing moves
