After updating via update manager yesterday (official 10.10 release
date), I removed all Compiz components via Synaptic and reinstalled
them. Compiz works again!! I have no idea why that worked or why it
didn't work when I removed Compiz the first time - but it's worth a try.

Firefox, gedit etc.), but Chrome and console work ok.

Switching to nouveau drivers and setting `Option "NoAccel" "true"` helped me to
reduce flickering. Though not eliminate it completely. And of course some
operations, like window resizing, slowed down.
I'm using latest Ubuntu 10.10, 32bit, Nvidia 6150SE nForce 430.

The touchpad on my Sony Vaio is not recognized after either booting from
the live CD, or after a fresh install. A USB mouse works when connected.
Below is the result of cat /proc/bus/input/devices, the bottom option

that 10.10 has issues with nVidia GeForce8400 due to newer version of
Xorg 1.9. I had the nVidia driver 'current' working with my nVidia

I have a similiar problem with a GeForce 8400GS and a Samsung SyncMaster
screen. The correct resolution is 1440x900x60, but it is detected as
1024x768x60, which is quite unacceptable. With the binary nVidia driver,
I can use a custom Modeline to force the correct mode. This has always
worked well,
