I just installed KDE to see what happens when I boot into it. Everything works fine in KDE except gnome applications. Firefox and Transmission are still showing the same rendering issues, while Konqurer and all native KDE aps show properly rendered fonts and themes. Also I cannot load certain aps

I forgot to say Bug #652731 shows that this happens with XFCE too. So the problem is related to both Gnome and XFCE, which means it can be narrowed down to something that is common between those two desktop environments and the core i7 x58 with newer Nvidia graphics card combinations. -- Meerkat

Albert, I don't think they will *decide* not to repair the bug. It's a pretty obvious one. It still seems to affect a small number of users, though, so it might not get the priority we would like. But these sort of problems often get fixed by the next release. If you're still doing (re)installs

I'm confirming the problem still exists with Maverick x64 kernel 2.6.35-22 running KDE4. System is Thinkpad T400 using Intel 4500. Sometimes a hard reset is the only way, sometimes I was able to switch to a VT and get those message around (but not exactly) every second (based on the timestamps):

I've pulled the xserver-xorg packages from Lucid, and used the Maverick nvidia-96 package. Pinned xorg, xserver-xorg on the Lucid release using aptitude hold xserver-xorg. Working nvidia drivers again for the old system. I'm not on that machine at present, sorry to not post specific versions. Can
