I currently do not have linux installed on my macbook. I did however try
with the natty live cd. The problem appears to have been partially

Regarding the bug itself... This does sound like either a driver
problem or a problem with the hardware itself. If the latter, then the
issue would show up in windows as well, which no one has mentioned so
maybe we can assume it isn't.

Indeed, that is exactly what happened, the bug remained in confirmed
state for a year and a half.
You have to understand that there are 400 bug reports against Ubuntu's X
component
Hmm, odd. Well, if this happened with lucid it might be worth more
investigation but for 9.10 that's old enough I think we'll just close
this and see if it occurs on newer releases.

I made a fresh install and its working alright. I have to say that 3d
games works much better that it did with the propietary driver packed in
ubuntu 10.04 and previous ones. What its really good news for me :)

Yeah, memory limitations are a common issue with USB installs. I
probably wouldn't recommend trying to install/use proprietary drivers
with usb livecd environments as it's still too buggy.
