On a Toshiba Protege M700, I did not have the issue with 11.04 amd64.
After the upgrade to 11.10, my touchpad stops working shortly after
login. Performed fresh install of 11.10 amd64 and issue persisted.
Unchecking "disable touchpad while typing", as suggested in this bug,
keeps my touchpad fun
In regards to the workaround in #5, this does not apply to my problem...

so our systems are probably very similar. This problem showed up right
after an upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10, and then again after a fresh

As a side note, simply hovering over the launcher when coming out of
suspend or hibernation when a window is maximized doesn't always clear
the corruption. I then have to first minimize the window and then touch
the launcher with the mouse cursor and it clears up.

I have seen odd lock-ups after resume from memory, most recently a week
or two ago, though I don't know whether they are the same issue - it is
hard to work out anything
I can confirm heavy problems with oneiric. My Laptop (Lenovo X201s on a docking
station) is connected via display port to a 19" Dell screen. This screen stays
black when I activate it via gnome or fn+f7. Sometimes (i.e. not reproducible)
the screen gets a signal after multiple rounds of pressing
I mostly use a USB mouse, but have noticed this happening on a Dell XPS
M1330 as well.
