Well, the difference between update-amanger refusing the upgrade and running
through was disabling the fglrx binary driver.
The PPA that had the driver you see in the logs was never used to install the
fglrx driver. The non canonical PPAs where my first guess of course, so I
disabled them all
Seeing the same thing here too. Upgraded a virtual-machine to 12.04, and
now when I try to connect to it from an 11.10 system via XDMCP I get the
same crash

I updatet BIOS. Old version 211, new 212. But it make no difference.
I also made VBIOS dump of both version, the difference between them is:

I do not believe that they are related. in the case that you mention the cause
is that necessary dependences are not in the repositories.

I have downgraded to 295.33 drivers (using sudo apt-get install
nvidia-current=295.33-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1)
but still no Unity 3D. Any ideas?

Using an ASUS UL50 laptop. Every time I close the laptop lid and it goes
