I expected xorg works normally after the upgrade from precise, but

Copypaste from wrong, old bug report (2012-12-03): last week (28th
November) I was using inkscape without problems. I tried to downgrade
all ubuntu packages that were upgraded last week, but without success.
Now it does not work at all. My workaround is to use inkscape through
VNC.

get instead a black screen with a mouse cursor and a console cursor
blinking. After pressing 2 or ENTER, lightdm starts again.

empathy. telepathy-indicator and /usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5
are running, but produce no load.
I did track down what appears to be my problem. Most of my problems
happened when dealing with gnome-terminal, particularly

(fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was
present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards
(such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000
Still haven't gotten a fix to this issue. My Xorg.conf doesn't have any
xfs font paths. This started as soon as upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Anyone with a vetted fix???

The fix that has been merged into fglrx is still incomplete in regards to 32
bit compatibility on a 64 bit host OS.
If you want to run old games like Counter Strike 1.6 on the Intel GPU, you
can't.
That's because of 2 reasons:
1) The path to #OTHER_ARCH# DRI libs is missing
The bug affects my Thinkpad x201s when docked on my Ultrabase. The rate
of failures depends on whether a display is connected to the docking
station's display port. Haven't tested the VGA port.

This fix worked for me. I had to repeat it for several other files that
would not install as well. I think there were 6 in all, with similar
names. Anyway deleting the file and then rerunning install fixed it. No

I switched my graphics card to this (

problem. I believe that the problem was in that my old Graphics Card
didn't have the proper driver (or something like that).

FYI, this bug is for hard system Crash only!.
You can't do anything with the system other than reboots (actually in my
case, it will reboot itself in about 20 seconds).No Ctrl-Alt-F1, no
SSH, nothing)
And Yes... still happening.. Just crashed again.. Seems pretty random.

I have discovered a useful workaround:
Splashtop.
It is a much more functional remote desktop solution than VNC or Vino.
It has sound. You can play 3D games over it and even Second Life works
beautifully.
And it's available in the Ubuntu Software Center for free.
