After updating to Ubuntu 13.04, I got a severe graphical bug.
Unfortunately screenshots do not show the problem, but I can describe it

I guess the significant feature of 3.8 is that it enables vsync on
Sandybridge. But can you try 3.10 to rule out a few more known bugs (see
ppa:mainline drm-intel-nightly).

Title:
A potential fix for Intel HD 4000
You don't have HD4000 graphics, nor described what the actual issue is
that you face. Can you please elaborate? The log files are with
nomodeset and so useless for debugging a driver issue.

According to the specifications for my model notebook online, I do but I
apologize if I am incorrect in trusting these. The issue is getting
hardware acceleration to work at all / work correctly on my system which
is running 13.04. I was not aware that nomodeset made it a useless log
as I'm new to
It is not a bug in the graphics driver, but in the acpi backlight
driver. It seems that Windows no longer uses the acpi backlight
controller, and as a result all the firmware seems to be broken.
** Summary changed:
- A potential fix for Intel HD 4000 graphics
+ [snb] more acpi backlight woes
Sorry but this wasn't about the backlight. That just happened to be part
of the grub entry

saucy has frequent image corruption (intel, sna)

Public bug reported:
It seems similar to bug #1144558 which was supposed to be fixed, I was
never able to trigger the issue easily in raring but in saucy it's quite
easy to see in firefox tab's summary or in chromium's url bar
I'm attaching a screenshot showing the issue
ProblemType: Bug
It's the read-read optimisation that was re-enabled. Not sure where the
root cause is as reproducing it reliably and quickly is tricky.

I can trigger the bug quite easy in saucy (open a tab in firefox do it
almost every time), let me know if I can help testing/providing debug

Has nobody at least an idea what the problem could be? What software
could be affected if it seems not to be the x server? What should I
recompile/bisect? libx11?

The fix has been picked up for the next stable 3.4 and 3.9 release. No
word from the Ubuntu kernel team yet but hopefully they'll pick it up
for 3.8 as well.

I ran the command. Hope you can see the result on launchpad.
Here is a nice photograph of the screen.

The corruption you see in the new tab panel happens when that image is
generated and stored to disk. It's debugging the corruption as it occurs
is the trick.

Sounds good. I'll give that a shot. I have since retired the E430 in
question as my primary system since I cannot get the Broadcom drivers
working on 3.7, 3.9, or 3.10, and cannot switch the wireless card as the
system halts due to it requiring with no questions this particular model

hum, that patch improved things (I don't get the issue on the new tab

Any chance you can capture a screenshot of it? Or failing that a
photograph, and it would be very useful to know if it is not capturable.
If you can reproduce it again, you can try FORCE_FULL_SYNC again, that
would identify whether it is the same issue.
