I have the same issue with hd 5600 on 3.7.10 kernel on OpenSuse.
Try if using keyboard shortcut for increase brightness ( Fn- F5 on
my dell laptop) does the trick to light up the display. It works
sometimes for me.

Similar to bug 11588934, I get acpi_video0 intel_backlight, or
(ideapad intel_backlight) depending on the osi_* kernel cmd line
settings. The one that is preferred / used (acpi_video0 / ideapad) do
not work. Whereas intel_backlight is the one that does work. I have

This happens on both Ubuntu 13.10 Unity, and Ubuntu GNOME. It use to
happen on Kubuntu, but the .config settings have solved it. No more
gliches on Kubuntu 13.10 at all.
With Ubuntu 13.10 Unity, the Launcher and Panel are rainbow colored
and completely cover up Launcher Panels. The background is
