I replaced the PSU to rule out the possibility of a broken PSU just in
case, hence the delay. While it was a risk, I needed an excuse you buy a
quieter one anyway. And guess what? No more crash. While I find it
difficult to believe that a software update uncovers an issue with the
PSU, I suppose I

Ever since I updated from 18.04 to 18.10, I'm no longer able to play a
game like Heroes of Newerth. As soon as the game start after the picking

Warsow gives me the same result.

@Albert Li: this ticket is about not being able to install the drivers.
Your issue is unrelated and should therefore be filed and treated
separately. As a new ticket if it's not an existing issue already.

It would be more helpful to test and post experiences about the packages in the
proposed repository than to ask about ETA's or to tell people to hurry up.
It's in the proposed repositories for a reason. This problem already got
introduced, probably due to the lack of sufficient testing. The
I can confirm it working with the proposed updates. fglrx with its
dependencies can be installed again.

@nikochat: and probably not 14.10 either since that one doesn't have the
LTS stack in the first place and runs fglrx just fine.

By running sudo apt-get install libcheese* you are basically reverting the
mesa updates of 14.0.4.2. It'll remove all the new packages and give you the
graphic stack compared to before installing the LTS enabled stack. Hence you
can install fglrx again.
You'll still have the new Utopic kernel
I sure how he didn't go through all this trouble for 14.10.
No such trickery is needed for 14.10 because there's no LTS enablement stack
for 14.10. fglrx, from the Ubuntu repositories as well as the AMD website will
install just fine the normal way.

@Otus: I'm surprised to hear you managed to not get the fglrx packages removed
when installing the LTS enablement stack.
In my case I had 14.04 and fglrx-updates (but the same happened with fglrx)
installed. When I tried to start using the LTS enablement stack by installing
the packages,
No issues with amd-catalyst-13.8 beta2 (since 12.12 for that matter) in
combination with GNOME Shell (3.8) on Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 for me.
@David: Are you using Unity or GNOME Shell and which version of Ubuntu
are you running?

@Daniel: That does not explain why Gnome Shell users had the same issue
earlier. For the record, I have vsync enabled in CCC and no high CPU
issue to be seen.

And for those who can't wait: Ubuntu 12.10 GNOME remix still works like
a charm. No compiz, no CPU issues, with tear-free enabled.

As of Ubuntu 12.10 GNOME remix in combination with AMD CCC 12.11 beta
(fglrx 9.010) the issue has disappeared! Note that I did a complete
fresh install (not perserving the home folder either) and I have yet to
test it with tear free and vsync on, but so far so good.

I'm a bit surprised to hear that disabling Tear Free solves the issue.
I've tried that in the past, in combination with vsync, and today again,
but to no avail.
I'm using GNOME Shell, are you perhaps using Unity?

I'm always using admin mode when making changes in CCC. I gave it
another go, followed by a reboot as well, but the issue remains.

The set Wait for vertical refresh to On, unless application
specifies workaround does not fix the issue when running gnome-shell.
Compiz is not being used when using gnome-shell. Therefore I expect
there will be no point in installing ccsm to try the alternative
workaround. Is this assumption
Also, updating the driver to AMD CCC 12.6 beta (fglrx 8.980) does not
solve the issue either.
