I had uninstalled all the nvidia packages after encountering this.
Reinstalled this morning and the nvidia modules built and loaded
correctly.

I'm not sure if my problem is exactly the same as this, but I also get
heavy flickering and graphic bugs that was not present in 11.10.
My work around:
I compiled and installed the nvidia-current package from 11.10 (version
280.13-0ubuntu6.1) for 12.04 amd64.
Then I had to add the following to

In other news, my nouveau drivers also stopped working, so I was
convinced I had a hardware problem. I haven't investigated the nouveau
issue any further.

The 260.19.06 beta did in fact solve all my issues.
And I think my issues were related to font rendering, so I used to have
poor performance when scrolling a verbose script in terminal, etc.

no output on my screen. The DVI connector outputs the entire boot
process so cabling etc works. It used to work on 9.10

I think I have something similar. After upgrading to Karmic I get
frequent freezes at quite random times.
I can always see the same error in the log:

Most of the times, I can unstuck the button and get the missing
button-release event by moving the pointer with the touchpad (but
FYI: This problem is now solved for me on Gentoo.
I was seeing the problem until just recently. I believe the fix came with an
update of libdrm from version 2.4.11 to 2.4.12
Perhaps this information is useful for ubuntu developers to be able to backport
the fix.

xorg 100% cpu when scrolling
I'm encountering this issue on a travelmate tm8204wlmi with an ati x1600
card.
It may well be related to bug 363238 somehow, since switching to XAA as
recommended in the comments there does fix the problem for me. However,
EXA gives me vastly superior performance compared to XAA in every single
25 matches
