Again my apologies to everyone for hijacking this thread, But since
people are asking, and I was able to solve the backlight problem after
days of pain, here are the instructions. Two caveats though:
- you need to have the laptop in "Discrete" mode in the BIOS (in my experience,

(AMD version) has gotten the backlight working in Discrete graphics mode

This bug no longer occur since I changed the BIOS Setup and increased
the video memory to 128M. The problem is not related to Chrome nor
LibreOffice, but the NVidia driver running on HP Pavilion dv6000
notebook.
I emphasize that this bug is the same bug 568492. It is a duplicate.
Both effects
Possible workaround: increase video memory in Bios Setup.
The issue disappeared for me.

I'm glad to say I found a workaround to this issue.
Not a fix, just a workaround, but after several tests, the corruption stopped
happening.
The issue is clearly related to available resources, because it happens when
there are many applications or documents open. So, I experimented change

Three times today I was filling up form questions in the Firefox and the
computer did not answer anymore. I had to switch off the computer to
restart. It seems that the cpu was working hard because the computer fan
started to work very fast.
