This is a regression, since in Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) – apart from a
minor bug (see bug #539163) – I have no issues with my graphics hardware
and the performance is just incredible. In Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) I'm
affected by heavy graphics corruptions in Gnome & in addition RAM-
Since I'm not able to reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) I'll
close this bug & open a new one for this issue on Natty. The performance
of this graphics card is great on Maverick, there's just one minor bug –
see bug #539163.

In the meantime I found a much better way to avoid the screen
corruptions: Just use…
Option "EXAPixmaps""off"
…in the 'Device'-section of your xorg.conf. Compared to Option
"RenderAccel" "off" the performance is just amazing.

I don't think that bug 789962 is a duplicate of this bug – I think it
makes sense to keep those bug reports apart since different graphics
cards are affected & the corruptions look different…

I can't reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat), since I
upgraded I've never seen the vertical green bars anymore. I guess this
bug was fixed in kernel 2.6.34 or 2.6.35.

I can confirm that - since I installed lucid's kernel (linux-
image-2.6.32-13-386) the screen artifacts disappeared (& KMS is enabled
by default). Besides, the performance of my ATI card is really amazing
now... It's like I got a new notebook :) Thanks!!

I can confirm this bug (with another ATI card - see below). Forcing the
card into PCI mode using the driver option 'radeon.agpmode=-1' is the
only solution for me (even though performance suffers); I tried AGP
modes 1, 2, 4 without any results; option 'EXANoDownloadFromScreen'
didn't work for me ei
Turning KMS on didn't work for me either - I also got mangled fonts plus

2. Sorry for the confusion with Evolution (comment #6). I can reproduce
this behavior with every other application (even nautilus for example) -
just by enlarging the window; there seems to be something like a
'critical size', above which
When I enable compiz, the content of the Evolution-window is also
blacked out. I can't find another application which is affected - just
Evolution.
