On the same machine, I tried running SuperTuxKart on Arch Linux with
Linux kernel 3.10-rc2, mesa 9.1.2 and Intel drivers 2.21.6.
I seemed to get the same hang, even though 3.10-rc2 contains the above-

In the hope of getting the importance of this bug raised I'd like to add
that this bug is now stopping me from updating using the update manager.
When it tries to open the authentication dialog box I get an alert
window "Cannot grab Mouse". The only thing I can do then is close it

My experience is that enabling EXA in xorg.conf fixes only the
notification issue. It does not fix the lack of Desktop Effects.
EXA on: notifications work, no desktop effects possible (session locks
up, complete freeze)

I have found a workaround, and appear to have repaired my original user
account's settings. I found by comparing the various settings files and
folders that the bad user had a file named ~/.config/monitors.xml but
the newly created and usable user did not.
